13 February 2010 5 Comments

I am going down to Wildwood & Cape May for a few days and thought I would try surf fishing. What lind of fish can be caught with a surf rod in late sept & October ? Any tips, ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

i would use an 8ft rod, spooled w 17lbs test,
can catch, striped bass, bluefish, weakfish, sea bass, black fish.
    can use tins, plugs,plastic worms.
for bait, try bunker, clams, green crabs, fiddler crabs, sandworms, squid&sand eels.
search the yellow pages online, look for cape may nj, the browse tackle shops& give em a call

thats the fall run for Stripers and that’s mostly what you’ll be catching, cape may is a great place for striper fishing…the local bait shop will set you with bait (usually mackeral and sand eeels)..you should also try fishing off a pier as the tide is coming in

That time of the year you are likely going to be looking at striped bass and blue fish. You could also be looking at some fluke, kingfish, dogfish, sea robins and a few others. Stripers and blues are what you would probably want to target.
